Vaibhav Suryavanshi, the fourteen-year-old, is a young phenomenon who became the youngest player to score a century in men’s T20 cricket. Playing for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2025, he scored 101 runs in just 38 balls, led his team to an emphatic eight-wicket victory against Gujarat Titans at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium with his explosive century.
A Star is Born
Suryavanshi’s innings was nothing short of phenomenal, hitting eleven sixes and seven fours to reach his century in just thirty-five balls, which was the second fastest in IPL and the fastest by an Indian, surpassing Yusuf Pathan’s record of thirty-seven balls in 2010.
Suryavanshi’s innings also included 54 runs in just ten balls. The partnership was with Yashasvi Jaiswal, who scored a strong seventy runs not out and the two had a blistering 166-run first wicket partnership as the Royals chased a target of 209 in only fifteen-point five overs.
Breaking Records in Landmarks
followed by Suryavanshi’s century for the Royals, they greatly needed for victory in the match; it also earned him a place in the records books:
- Youngest centurion in men’s T20 cricket
- Fastest century in IPL history by an Indian player
- Most sixes by an Indian in an IPL innings (11) (tied with Murali Vijay)
His fearless swashbuckle mentality and maturity well beyond his years have caught the attention of legends like Sachin Tendulkar and Yuvraj Singh, who dubbed the innings as the classic, “rise of a phenom.”
The Path Ahead
Suryavanshi’s rise has been nothing but meteoric, only playing his first IPL match nine days prior to his century, crushing multiple records and endeared himself to cricket fans all over the world.
As IPL 2025 season develops, I expect that the cricket world will be tuned into this exciting young star and how he will develop and change the game.
