MI vs GT: Epic IPL 2025 Match 56 – Drama and Thrills MI GT Epic IPL 2025 Match 56

What an emotional roller coaster it was at Wankhede last night! The 56th match of IPL 2025 featured the Mumbai Indians (MI) taking on the Gujarat Titans (GT) and included rain breaks, clutch plays, and a nail biting finish on the last ball. In the end, GT won the match by 3 wickets through the DLS after scoring 147 off 19 overs.

Mumbai’s innings: lost a few chances

MI started their innings behind the eight-ball losing Ryan Rickelton early. However, Will Jacks would play well to score a fast 53 off of 35 balls including lovely strokes that had the crowd cheering. Suryakumar Yadav added a nice 35 but MI’s middle order could not take advantage leading to a total of 155/8 in their full 20 overs.

Gujarat’s chase: Dramatic to the last ball

GT’s chase was not an easy one, Shubman Gill played like the anchor of their innings and scored a mature 43, and Sherfane Rutherford helped to drive the runs and scored 28 off of 15 balls. The GT chase included more than its share of drama as the rain came and then a very tense last over with GT needing 15 runs. Somehow they made it over the line off of the last ball holding it both together as they crossed that line.

Key Performers:

  • Will Jacks (MI): The bedrock of MI’s innings, Jacks smartly played an aggressive knock, smashing 53 off 35 balls. It felt like he genuinely had the crowd in his pocket, sending the ball to all areas of the ground giving MI fighting hope. If you blinked, you most likely missed a boundary or two.
  • Shubman Gill (GT): Cool, calm and clutch. Gill’s 43 was the kind of innings that drops the anchor in tight chases. He absorbed the pressure like a sponge, keeping his cool when it was hot. You know you have done something right when you casually stroll away with the Player of the Match award.
  • Sherfane Rutherford (GT): The guy you want at hand in crunch situations. Rutherford’s 28 from 15 balls came at the point – where GT needed a huge blast of momentum. He swung deserves to be man of the match like a man who genuinely knows where the gaps are and turned the momentum of the match when it mattered massively within their favour.

Cricket, with its ups and downs, never fails to intrigue. If this match was not enough to show the unpredictability of the sport and its acute drama and backed excitement and thrills, the IPL season is just warming up and who knows there could be many more thrilling moments ahead.
