Shubman Gill smashed his 7th ODI century: India vs England 3rd ODI Series

Shubman Gill smashed his seventh ODI century

In the third and final game of the series against England, India’s vice-captain Shubman Gill continued his stellar limited-overs form by smashing his seventh ODI century.

Gill made a spectacular comeback to the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, where he has scored hundreds in Test and Twenty20 International Cricket.

The young player appeared to be in excellent form right away and was unfazed by captain Rohit Sharma being removed in the second over of the innings.

Gill, who reached his century in 95 balls, helped rebuild the Indian innings alongside Virat Kohli (52) who also made a much-needed comeback. Gill also punished the England bowlers for their sloppy deliveries.

Gill displayed his signature fluency at a location he is familiar with.

Despite the early loss, he resisted allowing England to take charge and launched a barrage of boundaries in the overs immediately following Rohit’s dismissal.

As he and Kohli gradually established a solid foundation, his intention made sure India never lost steam. Gill remained in control of the bowling attack even after Kohli left, unfazed by the increased responsibility.

Record

During his knock, the milestone man made history by becoming the fastest batter to reach 2500 ODI runs.

He achieved the milestone in 50 games, three fewer than the illustrious South African, shattering the long-standing record held by Hashim Amla.

Gill joined a group of batters who scored fifty runs in each of the three games of a bilateral series, with his third consecutive half-century in the series. The youthful opener was not finished yet, though.

Against Mark Wood, Gill hit a brilliant flick for a four to reach his century on his 95th delivery. The celebrations were muted when he bowed toward the dressing room and acknowledged the stadium audience.

He became one of the few batters to reach the three-figure mark in all three formats at a specific location.
